THE GERALD APARTMENT HOTEL RECEIVES MULTIPLE AWARD NOMINEES IN THE 2022 AHAWA NATIONAL AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE

One of the most popular hotels in the greater Geraldton region, The Gerald Apartment Hotel, has again been nominated for multiple hospitality awards this year.
The hotel has received nominations for six awards categories including WA’s Best Regional Accommodation Hotel – an award which the establishment has won two years in a row.
“We are delighted and honoured for these award nominations as it reflects all the hard work from our team over the past twelve months. We pride ourselves on delivering a certain standard of customer services to our guests and these awards are a good means to measure how we match up to the goals we have set for ourselves” says Gemma Clark, Assistant General Manager for The Gerald Apartment Hotel.
The past year has not been short of challenges in the hospitality industry with various border restrictions and Covid-19 safety measures heavily impacting the various role players.
Hotels and restaurants have been forced to constantly adapt their strategy in order to minimise the negative impact on their operations. Measures have caused for a reluctance to travel whilst restrictions have made it impossible for both international and interstate travelling.
“We have stayed committed to following all safety measures and protocols as per the government regulations, with the intentions of prioritising the safety of our guests, customers and staff. This has meant that we have been forced to stay as flexible as possible and to adapt our strategies where applicable” Clark added.
The hotel has not only been in a position where they needed to alter their occupancy strategy from time to time, but they have also been required to adapt those of the restaurants and bars who rely heavily on the local market.
Clark said that this was impacted more recently, “Our restaurants and bars adds to the overall experience of our hotel guests but we definitely receive most of our foot traffic from the local community. Geraldton has been fortunate in many ways as our local community have seen little impact in terms of restrictions when compared to other states and areas. This has allowed us to operate as per usual with only recently having to put in place new safety requirements for customers entering our venues. This involved adding additional security during busy periods in order to check proof of vaccinations and to maintain other safety protocols at our venues.”
Many hospitality venues have been nervous with the mandated proof of vaccination requirements for all patrons. However Clark says that this has been well received despite the initial concerns from local operators within the region.
“The community and guests have been fantastic in the way in which they have shown cooperation. We have hardly had any issues with most visitors being willing to show their proof of vaccination without any reluctance or hesitation.”
The Australia Hotels Association WA National Awards for Excellence will take place on the 16th of May 2022 and will host some of the most well-known hotels in Western Australia. It involves a prestigious event where hotels, restaurant and bar venues, management teams and respective individuals get honoured for their efforts and excellent performance.
The competition is extremely tough with the Australian Hotel Association acknowledging those who have consistently delivered excellence in all aspects of hospitality.
“It is going to be a wonderful night regardless of the final outcome – just to be nominated for these awards have meant so much to our team. We look forward to catching up with other role players in the industry and to take a moment to celebrate a challenging, yet exciting year for The Gerald Apartment Hotel” Clark concluded.
